One of the key lessons that I have learned after working with hundreds of organizations that were seeking to change, is the importance of Head, Heart, and Hands. Let me briefly explain. Business success can often be boiled down to the 3 P’s, Product, Process, and People. It is often the people component that ultimately determines the difference between success and failure of any change initiative. In order for people to drive and sustain change, they first need to understand the need for the proposed change. That’s what I mean by “Head”. Next, they need to believe that the proposed change is the right thing to do. This is what I mean by “Heart” and can often be the unspoken undercurrent that derails sustainable change. Lastly, “Hands” refers to people knowing what specific changes are expected of them and taking the required actions. Change is hard and there is often internal resistance. Having a plan to enables your team to embrace change is a necessity.
